Glucose tolerance test. Basal glucose concentrations were measured in blood taken from the tail just before introducing the anesthetic (time, –30), and then again immediately before intraperitoneal injection of glucose (2 g/kg) (time 0). The animals were kept sedated by anesthetic supplementation every 45 minutes. Open and closed symbols represent controls and MIRKO mice, respectively. The bars (right) show the calculated area under the curve (minus basal) using the time 0 measurements as base lines. Data are means ± SEM. n = 7–8 per group. *P < 0.005 compared with control.
