Hamster scrapie infects tg1020 mice.

(A) PK-resistant PrP is clearly evident in the frozen brain sections of tg1020 mice (arrow) but not tga20 mice. Scale bar: 1 mm. (B) PrPSc is predominantly diglycosylated and present in 6 out of 6 tg1020 (top panel) mice infected with hamster scrapie, but it is seen in only 1 out of 4 tga20 mice (bottom panel). UI, uninfected. (C) The cerebral cortex of tg1020 and tga20 mice infected with hamster scrapie shows extensive spongiform degeneration in the tg1020 mice (denoted by arrowheads). Scale bar: 100 μm.
