OBJECTIVE: Classic facial characteristics of fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) are shortened
palpebral fissures, smooth philtrum, and thin upper vermillion. We aim to help pediatricians
detect facial dysmorphism across the fetal alcohol spectrum, especially among
nonsyndromal heavily exposed (HE) individuals without classic facial characteristics.
