Multiple organ failure (MOF) clinically manifests as diffuse tissue injury and organ
dysfunction. Although provoked by an external insult or injury, MOF is propagated by
intrinsic inflammation [1, 2]. Increasing evi-dence suggests that endogenous inflammatory
cascades go awry in MOF and become biologically self-destructive [3]. As caretakers of the
