Apolipoprotein B: structure, biosynthesis and role in the lipoprotein assembly process

The complete amino acid sequence of the liver-synthesized apolipoprotein B (apoB)
species, apoB 100, has been derived from cloned cDNA. The protein consists of 4536 amino
acids (+ a 27 amino acid signal sequence). Cysteine is clustered in the N-terminal 1 10 of
the protein, suggesting the presence of a stabilized tertiary structure in this part of the
molecule. Three types of structure are suggested to be of importance for the binding of the
