The type B insulin resistance syndrome is a manifestation of autoantibodies to the insulin
receptor. It is representative of a class of disease in which an autoantibody is produced
against a cell surface receptor (9, 79). Graves disease, caused by autoantibodies to the
thyroid stimulating hormone receptor, and myasthenia gravis, caused by autoantibodies to
the acetylcholine receptor at the myoneural junction, are typical of these diseases (30).
