Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most frequent chronic liver disease and the
most prevalent cause of abnormal liver enzymes in the western world [1]. It is defined as the
accumulation of excessive fat in the liver in the absence of alcohol abuse or other causes of
