The oxygen dependency of mammalian tissues

PRB Caldwell, BA Wittenberg - The American Journal of Medicine, 1974 - Elsevier
The relationship between oxygen consumption and oxygen pressure was studied in tissue
slices from several organs of the albino rat. Measurements were made under steady state
conditions of oxygen pressure in a specially designed apparatus. The results demonstrate
that the oxygen utilization decreases progressively below an oxygen pressure of 100 mm Hg
for all tissues tested in this system. Thus, there is no indication that any of these tissues have
unique oxygen requirements.
