The enteric nervous system is a vast network of neurons and glia running the length of the
gastrointestinal tract that functionally controls gastrointestinal motility. A procedure for the
isolation and culture of a mixed population of neurons and glia from the myenteric plexus is
described. The primary cultures can be maintained for over 7 days, with connections
