BACKGROUND & AIMS: In cirrhosis, superimposed inflammation often culminates in acute-
on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) but the mechanism underlying this increased sensitivity is not
clear. Cx43 is a ubiquitous gap junction protein that allows transmission of signals between
