Biological actions of galanin

JN Crawley - Regulatory peptides, 1995 - Elsevier
Galanin is a 29-amino acid residue neuropeptide, isolated from porcine intestine in 1983 by
Tatemoto coworkers [172], in the laboratory of Viktor Mutt at the Karolinska Institute in
Stockholm. As one of the most recently discovered neuropeptides, galanin shows many
interesting physiological and behavioral actions, which may be relevant to disease states
and clinical therapeutics. The present review summarizes the major biological actions of
galanin identified to date.
