To the Editor: IgE-mediated allergy is triggered by cross-linking of antigenspecific IgE
antibodies on the cell surfaces of mast cells and basophils, followed by local accumulation
and activation of inflammatory cells, including eosinophils and TH2 cells. TH2 cells produce
such cytokines as IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13, which promote IgE production and
