BACKGROUND: The skin of patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) has defects in keratinocyte
differentiation, particularly in expression of the epidermal barrier protein filaggrin. AD skin
lesions are often exacerbated by Staphylococcus aureus–mediated secretion of the
