BACKGROUND: Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a cardiac neurohormone synthesized in
cardiac ventricles as a result of increased wall stress. Left ventricular assist device (LVAD)
support in patients with end-stage heart failure results in reduced wall stress and therefore
