Cytochrome c oxidase (COX) is one of only four bigenomic proteins in mammalian cells,
having ten subunits encoded in the nuclear genome and three in the mitochondrial DNA.
The mechanism of its bigenomic control is not well understood. The ten nuclear subunits are
