Background Impaired skeletal muscle function contributes to exercise intolerance in patients
with COPD. Exercise-induced oxidative stress may initiate or accelerate impaired muscle
function. Dichloroacetate (DCA) activates muscle pyruvate dehydrogenase complex (PDC)
