The post-prandial release of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) from the distal gut appears to
involve a neural reflex that arises from the proximal gut. The neuropeptide calcitonin gene-
related peptide (CGRP)'s potent stimulatory effect on GLP-1 release was characterized,
using the isolated vascularly perfused rat ileum. CGRP, but not its homolog amylin, induced
