Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) is the most common cause of nosocomial diarrhea in the
industrialized world. 1, 2 In some areas, such the Southern United States, C difficile have
surpassed the infection rate of other health care–associated infections, such as methicillin-
resistant Staphylococcus aureus. 3 It is also the most common infectious cause of acute
