Endocytosis is used by eukaryotic cells to regulate nutrient internalization, signal
transduction, and the composition of the plasma membrane. However, a more complex
picture is emerging, in which endocytic pathways integrate diverse signals, thereby
contributing to a higher level of cellular and organismal organization. In this way,
endocytosis and cell signaling are intertwined in many biological processes, such as cell
motility and cell fate determination.
