Chronic pancreatitis and other risk factors for pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer, one of the most lethal of all human cancers, 62 ranks within the five
commonest causes of cancer mortality in the United States. It is likely that in future decades,
pancreatic cancer will continue to be a frequent cause of cancer mortality. In view of the high
mortality for pancreatic cancer, an important strategy for reducing the burden of this cancer is
to understand and, if possible, reduce exposure to known risk factors. This article reviews
the association between pancreatitis and other risk factors for pancreatic cancer.
