Maple syrup urine disease (MSUD) is associated with increased branched-chain amino
acids (BCAA), their keto acids (BCKA), and acute or chronic encephalopathy. Aim of
treatment is to reduce BCAA and BCKA to prevent or minimize brain dysfunction. We
