BACKGROUND/AIMS: Hepcidin is a liver-produced hormone that regulates systemic iron
homeostasis. Hepcidin expression is stimulated upon iron overload or inflammation while
iron deficiency, anemia and tissue hypoxia are negative regulators. We investigated the
