Relatively little is known about the effects of chronic transection on human peripheral
nerves. In this study intraoperative biopsies were obtained from proximal and distal nerve
stumps and intervening neuromas resected before peripheral nerve reconstruction.,
Biopsies were collected from ten patients following differing types of nerve injury, with delays
