In presenting 18 patients with Niemann-Pick disease, 3 of whom are still living, from the
records of the Children's Medical Center in Boston, it is our aim to emphasize the
physiologic principles demonstrated by the variable courses of the patients and their
laboratory findings. Although research in this field has been limited, existing investigative
efforts are summarized, including therapeutic trials of medications and lipid analytic studies.
