Macrophages are inflammatory cells with important roles in the propagation of renal injury.
More recently they have also been shown to be important in the resolution of inflammation.
Wang et al. show that macrophages can be modulated ex vivo by cytokine stimulation,
localize to renal tissue, and slow progression of experimental glomerular inflammation. Thus
strategies targeting macrophage function have considerable therapeutic potential.
