Translation of the mRNA for the poly (A)-binding protein (PABP) may be autoregulated by
the binding of PABP to the A-rich segment of its 5′-untranslated region (UTR). To test this
hypothesis, we examined the effect of different fragments of the 5′-UTR from human PABP
cDNA on the translation of the β-galactosidase (β-Gal) reporter gene. Presence of the A-rich
