Biglycan and decorin are small dermatan sulfate-containing proteoglycans in the
extracellular matrix of the artery wall. The dermatan sulfate chains are known to stimulate
thrombin inhibition by heparin cofactor II (HCII), a plasma proteinase inhibitor that has been
