Hepatic glucokinase (GK) catalyzes the phosphorylation of glucose to glucose 6-phosphate
(G6P), a step which is essential for glucose metabolism in liver as well as for the induction of
glycolytic and lipogenic genes. The sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1c (SREBP-
