Pemphigus is a severe chronic autoimmune blis-tering disease of skin and mucous
membranes that was lethal until 1950s when glucocorticoids became available.
Glucocorticoids are the cornerstone of treatment. The disease, however, is still difficult to
treat, and the long-term use of steroids leads to severe side-effects. Pemphigus is a rare
