Publisher Summary This chapter examines the metabolism of immunoglobulins. Turnover
studies with purified radioiodinated immunoglobulin molecules have allowed the definition
of the metabolic characteristics of the different immunoglobulin classes in normal humans
and experimental animals. A number of physiological factors can be shown to influence
immunoglobulin synthesis. The first such factor is the status of the central lymphoid organs.
