In the UK bacterial vaginosis is one the conditions most commonly associated with an
abnormal vaginal discharge in reproductive age women1. Bacterial vaginosis is a
polymicrobial syndrome in which the normal vaginal lactobacilli, particularly those producing
hydrogen peroxide, are replaced by a variety of anaerobic bacteria and mycoplasmas.
Common agents of bacterial vaginosis include Gardnerella vaginalis, Mobiluncus,
