Obesity may be defined as an increase in the percentage contribution of body fat to total
body weight. Historically the study of experimentally induced forms of obesity began with the
observation by Cuenot in 1905 that mice with a yellow coat color are obese (77). The
genetic basis for this form of inherited obesity has been clearly established, and these
animals have served as subjects for numerous investigations(345). A second major advance
