Activation of acyl-CoA: cholesterol actyltransferase (ACAT) in macrophages by lipoproteins
is a key event in atheroma foam cell formation. To help elucidate the mechanisms whereby
lipoproteins stimulate ACAT, the early cellular events of lipoprotein-induced ACAT
