Corticotrophin-releasing factor (CW) is a principal component in the response of the
hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis to stress. However, other mediators of the stress
response have also been proposed and we present evidence to suggest that, in immune-

Corticotrophin-releasing factor (CW) is a principal component in the response of the hypothalamo-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis to stress. However, other mediators of the stress response have also been proposed and we present evidence to suggest that, in immune-mediated disease models, CW appears to be under a tonic inhibitory control and ceases to be the major driving factor regulating this axis. We further suggest that in the chronic inflammatory stress model of adjuvant-induced arthritis. this role is taken over by arginine vasopressin (AVP).
