The synthesis and function of arachidonic acid metabolites remains the focus of extensive
investigation. This subject has previously been reviewed in the Annual Review of
Biochemistry in 1975, 1978, and 1983. The current effort is organized into a brief
consideration of the products and function of the major synthetic enzymes, namely
cyc1ooxygenase, the endoperoxide-dependent en zymes, 12-lipoxygenase, 15-
lipoxygenase, 5-lipoxygenase, leukotriene syn thetic enzymes, and cytochrome p450. In …

In addition, attention is directed at the role and function of arachidonic acid metabolism in certain models of pathophysiological conditions. Finally, recent advances in the study of es sential fatty acid deficiency, especially as related to arachidonic acid metabo lism, warrant consideration.
