Pathogenesis of mouse scrapie: dynamics of agent replication in spleen, spinal cord and brain after infection by different routes

Groups of Compton white mice were infected with different doses of the Chandler (139A)
strain of agent by one of the following routes of injection; intracerebral, intraperitoneal,
intravenous, subcutaneous in the “scruff” of the neck or under the footpad. At weekly
intervals, 3 mice were taken from each group and infectivity assays were performed on pools
of spleen, brain and spinal cord to study the dynamics of agent replication during the early
