The paper by Werko (see preceding abst.) on the diet-heart theory or lipid-heart disease
theory is discussed critically and it is emphasized that rigorously controlled dietary
experiments with human subjects and animals and the large and growing literature on the
epidemiology of coronary heart disease all indicate an association between the
development of coronary heart disease, the concentration of lipids, particularly cholesterol,
in the blood plasma and the habitual diet.
