The following observations were made on living patent blood vessels which were
consistently grown in vitro from normal adult chicken bone marrow by the method described

The following observations were made on living patent blood vessels which were consistently grown in vitro from normal adult chicken bone marrow by the method described below. Of our 38 cultures, 33 or 86.870 showed rich networks of capillaries containing healthy blood cells which exhibited a slow streaming movement as the blood vessels proceeded to lengthen and widen. During the first week of growth the capillar'es anastomosed in several planes, and new capillaries continued to form for one to two weeks. These enlarged and filled with cells, while others retracted and the cells within them shriveled and degenerated. Extensive, apparently healthy capillary networks containing streaming blood cells were maintained without change of medium for as long as three weeks. A few healthy extravascular erythrocytes persisted 23 days, and healthy leucocytes were observed as late as the 28th day.
