MHC-class I-positive cells expose on their surface thousands of self peptides derived from
endogenous cellular or viral proteins, which constitute antigen determinants potentially
recognized by T cells (Townsend and Allison, 1993). In the particular case of tumour cells,
tumour-specific peptides can similarly be presented to the immune system, either as
peptides derived from overexpressed native proteins or as peptides derived from mutated
