Pyruvate and l-lactate, at concentrations up to 40 mm, did not cause insulin release and 45
Ca 2+ uptake by isolated incubated ob ob mouse pancreatic islets. Insulin secretion by
perfused ob ob mouse pancreas was neither initiated nor potentiated by pyruvate or l-
lactate. However,[U-14 C] pyruvate oxidation rates by pancreatic islets were five to nine
