Previous studies have demonstrated that alpha-adrenergic stimulation of cultured, neonatal
rat myocardial cells results in an increase in intracellular volume and protein content of
cultured neonatal rat myocardial cells. Utilizing this model of cardiac hypertrophy, we have
examined the effects of alpha-adrenergic stimulation on the accumulation of sarcomeres
and the expression of a rat cardiac myofibrillar gene, myosin light chain-2 (MLC-2).
