Induction of ovulation by gonadotropins is one of the major developments in the treatment of infertility in the second half of the 20th century, from the first description of a successful induction of ovulation described by Gemzell et al.(1) in 1958 to the present, when ovulation induction with gonadotropins is an important component of in vitro fertilization (IVF), gamete intrafallopian transfer (GlFT), and intraperitoneal insemination (IP).
