BACKGROUND/AIMS: We have previously shown that phagocytosis of apoptotic bodies
(AB) by hepatic stellate cells (HSC) is profibrogenic. As HSC survival is central to the
progression of liver fibrosis, our goal was to investigate if phagocytosis induces HSC
