Controversy has recently arisen over the role of sirtuins in metazoan aging. In this issue of
Cell Reports, Banerjee et al. demonstrate that Drosophila Sir2 is necessary for life span
extension in response to dietary restriction and that its overexpression in the fat body
increases the life span.
