Although Th1-and Th2-type cytokine profiles have been associated with rejection and
tolerance respectively, this paradigm may not be completely accurate. Instead, recent
studies suggest that there could be a hierarchy of T-cell growth factors with regard to their
ability to block tolerance and induce rejection (rather than a polarized Th1/Th2
demarcation).
