Leigh syndrome (also termed subacute, necrotizing encephalopathy) is a devastating
neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by almost identical brain changes, eg, focal,
bilaterally symmetric lesions, particularly in the basal ganglia, thalamus, and brainstem, but
with considerable clinical and genetic heterogeneity. Clinically, Leigh syndrome is
