RESULTS There were 67 and 224 cases reported from 1985 to 2000 and from 2001 to 2008
(April), respectively. Since 2001, six clusters have been described in five different localities.
Three clusters occurred in previously silent municipalities (Paulínia, 2001; Mauá, 2004;
Vinhedo, 2004), and three in known endemic areas. All studied clusters were described only
in official technical reports, none as scientific publications in periodicals.
