Transforming growth factor βs (TGF-βs) are secreted by most cell types as latent high
molecular weight complexes consisting of TGF-β and its latency associated peptide (LAP)
propeptide dimers, covalently linked to latent TGF-β-binding proteins (LTBPs). Currently,
