A 3-kb DNA fragment, inserted in Bluescribe vector, was used to localize the desmin gene
by in situ hybridization on human metaphase chromosomes. The probe was labelled by Bio-
11-dUTP and detected by immunofluorescence. Subsequent R-banding indicated that the
desmin gene is located in band 2q35.
Summary
