PURPOSE: Expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is reduced in the lungs
of patients with emphysema. We examined whether VEGF levels in sputum differed in
patients with emphysema, bronchitis, or asthma, as compared with controls. METHODS: Fifty-
